Terms of Use

These terms set the conditions for using Somerville Residents Directory. By using the service, you agree to them. Do not use the service if you do not agree.

1. Nature of the Service

Somerville Residents Directory is a privately operated reference that describes and links to public rolls, record indexes, and historical collections associated with Somerville, Massachusetts. It does not host government records and is not affiliated with an office, court, library, or other records custodian.

2. Acceptable Use Rules

Use the service only for lawful purposes. You may not use it, or any information reached through it, to:

  • Stalk, harass, intimidate, threaten, or harm any person
  • Find a person protected by a restraining or protective order
  • Commit identity theft or fraud
  • Make an FCRA-regulated decision, including one about credit, work, residency, or insurance
  • Scrape, copy, or republish the site's content at scale
  • Interfere with the site's operation or security

3. No Consumer Reporting Agency Role

This service is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, 15 U.S.C. § 1681 et seq. Neither its content nor results from a linked search tool are consumer reports. They may not be used to determine eligibility for credit, work, residency, insurance, or any other purpose regulated by the FCRA.

4. External Services

Government portals, sponsored search tools, and other outside services have their own conditions and privacy practices. We do not control their content, availability, charges, or information practices.

5. No Warranties

The service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind. We do not promise that its content is accurate, complete, or current, or that a linked portal will operate or return a correct result.

6. Liability Limits

To the extent law permits, the operators are not liable for direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages connected with use of this service or an outside resource, including decisions based on record information.

7. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold the operators harmless from a claim or demand, including reasonable attorneys’ fees, arising from misuse of the service or a violation of these terms.

8. Intellectual Property

The original text, design, logo, and layout are protected by copyright. Linking to a page and quoting a short excerpt with attribution is permitted; republishing whole pages or systematically copying their content is not.

9. Changes to Terms

We may revise these terms by posting an updated version here. Continued use after the posting accepts the revision.

10. Restricting Access

We may block or limit access, without notice, for a user who violates these terms or misuses the service.

11. Governing Law

Massachusetts law governs these terms, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Requests to government custodians are separately governed by Massachusetts Public Records Law, M.G.L. c. 66 §10 and 950 CMR 32.00, along with any record-specific access rule.

12. Severability

If a provision of these terms is unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in effect.
